President Donald Trump has officially launched the Gaza Board of Peace. It’s a new international body aimed at overseeing the next phase of governance and reconstruction in Gaza. It surges mid growing concern from several European nations about its structure and membership.
The announcement was made at the World Economic Forum in Davos, where Trump appeared alongside newly revealed members of the board. Most of the participants come from the Middle East and South America, with a noticeable absence of leaders from Western Europe. Trump described the group as potentially “one of the most consequential bodies ever created” and confirmed that he will serve as its chairman.

European governments, particularly the United Kingdom, have expressed reservations over the board’s direction and the possible involvement of Russian President Vladimir Putin. Although Putin has reportedly received an invitation, he has not confirmed whether he will participate. The concerns also extend to a draft charter provision that would grant permanent membership to countries that contribute $1 billion in cash within the board’s first year, while other members would serve limited three-year terms.
Earlier in the week, Trump raised eyebrows by suggesting the Gaza Board of Peace could replace the United Nations. At Davos, he softened that position, stating the board would work closely with The United Nations.
Addressing the conflict in Gaza, Trump said the Israel-Hamas war is “really coming to an end,” while issuing a firm warning to Hamas. He stated that the group must disarm or face total defeat, and called for the release of the final deceased Israeli hostage, Ran Gvili.
