Professional women’s baseball is returning to the United States with a dedicated league after an absence of nearly three decades. The Women’s Pro Baseball League will launch its inaugural season with the aim of providing stable competition for players and expanding the sport’s presence within the professional athletic landscape.
Although the project features franchises representing New York, Boston, Los Angeles, and San Francisco, all scheduled games will take place at Robin Roberts Stadium in Springfield, Illinois. This venue will host each team’s 15 regular-season games, as well as the playoffs that will determine the first champion.
Women’s Pro Baseball League revives the tradition of women’s baseball
Each roster will consist of 15 players competing in seven-inning games—the format chosen for the league’s inaugural season.
The creation of the Women’s Pro Baseball League also revives a tradition deeply rooted in American baseball history. The All-American Girls Professional Baseball League emerged during World War II, operating from 1943 to 1954; years later, it reached a new generation of fans thanks to the film *A League of Their Own*.
Since then, women’s baseball has also established a presence in international competitions. The Women’s Baseball World Cup began in 2004 and will hold its eleventh edition in 2027. Japan has dominated the tournament with eight consecutive titles, following the United States’ victories in the first two editions.

As part of its promotional strategy, the new league maintains an active social media presence, showcasing player backgrounds and team information while promoting ticket and merchandise sales ahead of the season opener.
